About The British School of Washington DC

The British School of Washington (BSW), which is located close to the campus of Georgetown University, is a non-sectarian, co-educational college preparatory independent day school for children from 3 to 18 years (UK Nursery to Year 13/US Pre-School to Grade 12). Owned and operated by the World Class Learning Group, BSW is the longest established of the seven schools which World Class Learning Group operates. Sister schools are located in Houston, Boston, Chicago, Charlotte, New York, and Doha, Qatar.

The British School of Washington serves the members of the British, American, and international communities in Washington, DC and the metropolitan area who are seeking a high quality British based education taught in English with a global perspective.

There are approximately 400 students enrolled with over 40 teaching staff and an average class size of 12 for all Secondary classes and 17 for Primary classes which allows for significant personal attention.

Whilst many students originate from the UK and United States, the school is an international community with over 40 different nationalities. Approximately 50% of the students are American, 25% British, and the rest of the students come from a wide variety of countries. The majority of teachers are UK educated and all teachers hold formal teaching qualifications.

Housed in a self contained high quality building on three floors, the school's interior has a bright, creative and modern interior design. There are specialist facilities for the sciences, graphic arts, music, and a superbly equipped design technology centre. Early childhood facilities are particularly spacious and well equipped. The facility houses a fitness centre in the main building and the school leases playing fields and gymnasium space close by. Learning is supported by two libraries, shared banks of new laptops and state of the art interactive Smartboard technology in every classroom.

The school is a member of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS), the Council of International Schools (CIS), Council of British International Schools (COBIS), the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), and the British American Business Association (BABA).
